Woman Charged with Child Abuse and Neglect After Leaving Children Unattended in Hot Vehicle

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On April 10th, 2011, around 11:00am, a woman flagged officers down in a business parking lot at 1628 Fort Campbell Blvd (Dollar Tree) in reference to three young children being left alone in a vehicle.

When officers arrived they found three children, 8 months (male), 2 (male) and 3 years old (female), sweating inside of a locked vehicle, which was not running, windows up, and parked in direct sunlight. Shortly after officers arrived (about 4 minutes) the mother of the children inside of the vehicle, Yolanda Timmons, returned.

She told officers that there was no shopping cart immediately available to carry the children and since she would only be gone for a few minutes opted to leave the children in the vehicle.

The outside temperature was 73 degrees and 75% humidity when the children were left in the vehicle.  The temperature inside the vehicle was found to be approximately 112 degrees.

The children were turned over to a friend.
