Clarksville, TN – On Sunday, March 13th, 2011, the Kenwood Middle School Varsity Baseball suffered their first loss of the year dropping their record to 2-1 by losing a hard played game to Montgomery Central. Both teams played good baseball and it was an exciting game to watch.
The score was 2-1 going into the bottom of the 6th. With 2 outs on the board, a Montgomery Central hit and critical errors by Kenwood’s defense allowed base to be loaded. Montgomery Central then cleared the bases with a double pushing the final score to 5-1.
This game was definitely a pitchers battle. Austin Gardner made his varsity pitching debut for the Kenwood. He pitched a complete game and also had the only hit of the day for the Knights.
The play of the game was an “ESPN” catch by right fielder Devonte Maffett. A ball was hit 25-30 feet over his head and to his left. He got a good jump on the ball and used his blazing speed to track it down and get the out.
In the Junior Varsity game the Knights improved their record to 2-1 by beating Montgomery Central 14-2. Michael Merriweather and Alex Brack combine to pitch a great game. Several of the JV Knight players had base hits. DeAndre Allen placed a fantastic bunt that scored the go ahead run.
The Kenwood Knights next game is against the Rossview Hawks at home on Friday, March 18th, 2011.
