Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s softball team will open the Ohio Valley Conference portion of its 2011 schedule this Saturday and Sunday, with a three-game road series at Morehead State.
The series opens for Austin Peay (3-13) with a noon, doubleheader, Saturday, at University Field, and concluding with a noon single game, Sunday, against the Lady Eagles (6-11).
The Lady Govs haven’t played since last Sunday at the rain-shortened Georgia Tech Buzz Classic, where they finished with a 1-2 record. They also had a Thursday doubleheader at Lipscomb postponed due to weather and field conditions.Austin Peay is led offensively by senior Tiffany Smith, who enters the weekend with a team-high .279 batting average, which includes team-leading 11 runs scored, three home runs and eight RBI.
Smith batted .333 last weekend at the Buzz Classic, reaching base four out of her eight plate appearances, including hitting the Lady Govs only home run of the classic.
Junior Catie Cozart is second on the team with a .267 batting average and is tied with Smith for the team lead in hits with 12.
In the circle, junior Ashley Bolda pitched a complete-game 8-1 victory against Alabama State to earn her first win of the season, while sophomore Morgan Brewer – despite losing 1-0 – pitched impressively in a complete-game loss to Kennesaw State.
