Provost Lecture Series at APSU to feature Fulbright Scholar

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The next Provost Lecture Series at Austin Peay State University will feature a Fulbright Visiting Scholar who will discuss U.S. and Russia relations.

Dr. Alexander Kubyshkin, professor of North American studies in the School of International Relations at St. Petersburg State University in Russia, will speak at 6:00pm, Wednesday, February 23rd in the Morgan University Center Ballroom C.

His visit is sponsored by the U.S. Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program of the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, the APSU Department of Political Affairs and the offices of Academic Affairs and International Education. The event is free and open to the public.

A resident of Russia, Kubyshkin earned a diploma – similar to a master’s degree in Russia – in history from Ivanovo State University in 1974. He then received the doctoral-equivalent credential of Candidate of Sciences in 1979 from the former Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) State University. He obtained a Doctor of Sciences in history in 1995 from the Institute of General History at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.

He has published extensively in Russian scholarly journals on topics pertaining to international relations, diplomatic history, political history and American history.

The Provost Lecture Series seeks to foster a spirit of intellectual and scholarly inquiry among faculty, staff and students. The program will be used as a platform for APSU faculty members who are recent recipients of provost summer grants, who have been awarded faculty development leaves and who have engaged in recent scholarly inquiry during sabbatical leaves.

APSU faculty members with recent research of acclaim also will be given a platform within this series. In addition, other faculty members of local or widespread renown will be invited to lecture within this series.
