Hookah 21 a hit among the younger crowd

The Hookah 21 hookah bar has been open for the last two months and they have been eagerly awaiting the fall semester to bring the return of students to Austin Peay State University. The bar has been wildly popular with younger Clarksvillians. But people from all ages have stopped by to enjoy one of the oldest methods of smoking available in the world.

Hookah 21 offers 24 flavors of flavored tobacco for their patrons to enjoy, along Mediterranean style foods including gyros, Shawarma, spicy Chicken Wings, Falafel, Humus with chips, Samosas, and much more.

Morgan from Seattle who is here in Clarksville to attend Austin Peay State University said, “In Portland Oregon there’s a hookah bar on just about every corner.” she talked about the differences between smoking the Hookah and smoking cigarettes, “Smoking the hookah is completely different. I almost get an asthma like attack when I smoke regular cigarettes, but with the hookah you can smoke it all day long; though a session usually lasts just for an hour. There is none of the harshness compared to smoking regular cigarettes, it is totally different it’s like breathing regular air.” She had brought three friends with her to enjoy their first experience with the Hookah, Nadja, Shay, and Demetria. They all said they enjoyed the experience. Their favorite flavors were Sex on the Beach, and Blue Myst. According to the girls, “The Sex on the Beach flavor is relaxing. It has a sweet mild taste.”

Most importantly people come to the hookah bar to enjoy quality time with their friends. You simply cannot be in a rush when you are enjoying the Hookah.

Owner Furqan Ahmad said, “We want to attract all kinds of people: we have lady’s night on Thursday; APSU night on Monday evenings; Army, Police, Fire, and EMS are recognized on Wednesday nights, special discount is offered on these nights. On the Weekends (Friday & Saturday) we offer live belly dancing after 9:00pm in the evenings.”

“What we wanted to do is to bring a taste of Middle-eastern and Indian culture to Clarksville” he said, “In the Middle-east smoking the hookah is ubiquitous, recently in the United States the Hookah has been gaining in popularity.” The hookah made its first appearance in Tennessee in the Nashville area, but has been rapidly expanding to smaller Tennessee communities such as Murfreesboro and Clarksville.

Hookah 21’s owners wanted to take advantage of the heightened culture of the Downtown and Austin Peay State University areas. For them that made their centrally located University Avenue location a perfect choice. The business is strategically located at 138 University Blvd, the former location of Retro’s Arcade; just a short walk from the Austin Peay State University main campus, and in close proximity to University Landing Apartments.

Hookah 21 offers free wireless high speed internet and each of the booths has a outlet located nearby. They also have a pool table for those who enjoy playing.
