Vegetables aren’t the only things that grow in the Garden of Hope in Clarksville, Tennessee. Hope grows there too. The mission of the program is to grow and distribute fresh produce to local food banks and help feed hungry people in our community. Giving gardens like the Garden of Hope provides local residents opportunities to make a difference and connect to the environment. Excess produce will be distributed to local food banks to feed the hungry in Clarksville and Montgomery County. Volunteers of all ages are needed work and learn together in the Hope Garden.
Garden of Hope volunteers will plant, care for and harvest produce that will be sold to raise funds for local food programs including F.U.E.L, Loaves and Fishes and other groups feeding the hungry.

The Garden of Hope is located near Exit 11 at 860 Hornbuckle Road.
What are the ways an individual, family, or group may participate?
- An individual or community garden plot may be adopted.
- Larger plots will be planted and maintained by volunteers & coordinated by the Garden of Hope committee.
General Guidelines
The adopted plots
All potential gardeners and volunteers are required to complete an application form.
Option 1: A plot fee of $10.00 per 10×10 plot is due by May 1st, 2010. Any excess produce shall be donated to designated food banks in Clarksville-Montgomery County, TN.
Option 2: No Fee Option-Adopters not paying a fee shall donate no less than 1/3 of produce grown to designated food banks in Clarksville-Montgomery County, TN.
- An individual, family, or group may adopt one or more plots. Each garden plot will measure 10 feet by 10 feet.
- The adopter shall plant tomatoes, bell peppers, squash (yellow crooked necked and zucchini), and cucumbers. These vegetable plants/seeds will be provided by the Garden of Hope.
- In the remainder of the plot, the adopter may plant vegetables of their choice.
- The landowner will prepare the ground for planting. Tentative spring planting date is May 1st.
Volunteers for the larger garden area
Volunteers are needed to perform scheduled maintenance (planting, weeding, mulching, and harvesting) in areas planted by the Garden of Hope committee.
A schedule will be established for this work.
A volunteer orientation meeting will be held on Saturday, April 17 from 10:00am-12:00am at the Extension office and/or on an as-needed basis.
How can you help?
- By volunteering to adopt a section of the garden and care for it throughout the garden season.
- Sign up for the Garden of Hope CSA and for a nominal fee you will receive a box full of fresh, seasonal vegetables every week throughout the growing season.
- Shop at our Downtown Market booth on Saturdays later this season.
